Back in the days when I was a teenager, before I had status and before I had a pager, I used to spend hours mooching around suburban charity shops hoping to pick up the detritus left behind by aging house DJs.
Of course not having a portable deck on me, I generally based my purchasing decisions on things such as, the sleeve, if the record had come out before 1990, did it have a dodgy Italian name attached, was it 10p etc etc.
The result was (and is) that I ended up with several thousand utterly shit italo house records clogging up my house, BUT every now and then you’d get home put the needle on the record and find you’d hit paydirt, a filthy bassline, snappy claps and maybe a light touch of hands in the air piano.
Those were the moments that made the many hours spent contemplating Phil Collins’ bald visage just about bearable.
Anyway, basically that’s kind of the feeling I got when I listened to the new Munk single La Musica (on Gomma), after wading through yet more rubbish MP3s, here at last was some proper tackle.
Pitched down Euro vocals, nice bit of piano, drums all in the right place, decent low end throb, all gets a bit busy as it goes on, yes indeed, this is one for the summer.
Now you two can share my joy as the Radio edit and Mercury remix can be nabbed from below, whilst the full package, complete with Audiojack, Azari & III, Shir Khan and Tiago remixes, is available from here.
